Ready to Apply?

Here are a few resources to guide you through the application process.

What are the requirements?

Each opportunity has its own requirements, deadlines and, in some cases, eligible countries, so make sure to carefully read the description of the Collaborative Research Action (CRA) of your interest. Common eligibility requirements across CRAs are as follows:

Each proposal must involve the participation of three types of actors: natural
scientists, social scientists, and at least one societal partner (people or groups affected by the intended project outcomes).

Proposals must adopt a transdisciplinary approach, integrating natural sciences, social sciences, and societal partners (e.g., NGOs, local governments, or community organizations) to address global challenges effectively.

Proposals must include collaborators from at least three different countries, all of which must be among the eligible countries listed for the CRA of interest. [Researchers from off-list countries must provide their own funds or in-kind contributions.]

Only one proposal is allowed per team for each CRA

Projects must have a maximum duration of 36 months (3 years).

Some calls may have budget limitations or additional requirements.

What is the application process?

Call for Applications

The call is announced on the Belmont Forum website and separate deadlines are provided for registration and proposal submission. Both dates are important.

Registration

Register your interest on the Belmont Forum Grant Operations (BFgo) platform within the deadline in the CRA.

Proposal Submission

After reviewing all the CRA details, complete and submit your proposal through BFgo platform or the designated portal by the submission deadline. Note that some CRAs may require a pre-proposal or the use of external platforms for submission and partner matchmaking. Be sure to check the specific CRA details for precise instructions.

Initial Review

Proposals undergo an initial eligibility and quality check to ensure they meet the basic requirements, such as including collaborators from at least
three countries/agencies.

Expert Evaluation

An independent panel of scientific, academic, and professional experts evaluates the proposals based on three equally weighted criteria:

– Scientific excellence.

– Quality and efficiency of implementation and management.

– Potential impact

Funding Decision

Funding decisions are made and communicated to applicants, usually within XX. Decisions are final and cannot be appealed. Each participating agency funds eligible researchers through its internal processes [THIS NEEDS TO BE CLEARER.]
